Groom's checklist
Wedding planning is often a comprehensive process, and it's smart to know which tasks have traditionally fallen on the groom's list . Although modern couples often share responsibilities, this gives a good guideline:
Traditional tasks for the groom (and/or the couple together):
Attire: book an appointment, choose, buy and customize your own outfit (suit, tuxedo or other), as well as coordinate the outfits of your best man(s) and any bridesmaids. Remember to get your hair cut/styling done well in advance of the day.
Budget and finances: The groom often has a central role in preparing and following up on the budget, in collaboration with the bride.
Wedding rings: The responsibility for purchasing (or ordering and picking up) the wedding rings often lies with the groom.
Best man(s): Choose and ask your best man(s).
Honeymoon: Planning and booking your honeymoon. This can be a surprise, or a joint project.
Guest list (his page): Contribute your part of the guest list, including collecting addresses.
Entertainment/Music: Often involved in choosing a DJ, band or music for the party, and perhaps also music for the wedding ceremony.
Toastmaster: Find and ask the person who will be the toastmaster, who is crucial to the flow of the dinner.
Transportation: Organize transportation to and from the wedding/venue for yourself and possibly for the bride and groom together.
Marriage certificate: Ensure that all necessary documentation for marriage is completed and submitted to the correct authority (such as the Norwegian Tax Administration) on time. This is critical!
Speech: Write and prepare your speech to the bride, and preferably a thank you speech.
Gift for the bride: Traditionally, the groom buys a personal gift for the bride which is presented before or during the wedding.
Details on the day: Make sure you (or your best man) have the rings and speech ready on the day itself.
Remember that today it is more important to divide tasks based on interests, skills and time , rather than gender. Talk together about what each of you wants to take responsibility for!
